Mrs Ludwika Sikorska started studying in the first edition of the University of the Third Age. Now she is a student coordinator at the Gdansk section.
Breaks between the classes give students the opportunity to chat with each other and sometimes to do their homework.
At the University of the Third Age there is a huge variety of people of different ages from different environments. The common characteristic for the most of them is the fact they didn't have the opportunity to study when they were younger.
The most popular workshops are the computer classes. Getting to know the newest technology gives people a chance to have an active life in today's world.
Adult students attend courses because they genuinely want to learn new things. They don't study because they have to. Every single moment shared with those people is proving it. English classes.
It's not an ordinary situation for us. Usually we see younger students sitting at those desks. Moments of weariness come after many hours spent at the University.
There is a place where some people start to enjoy their life. No matter what age they are and what they have done until now. Here they can learn almost everything they want, meet great people and have fun. It's not just a school, it's a community. You can start studying here if you are at least 55 years old.
The University of the Third Age was established in November 2004. At the moment there are over 1000 students in Gdansk section. More than 80% of them are women. There are more than 70 groups and almost 30 different subjects. English language, computer, gymnastics and movement exercises are the most popular. Subjects as 'chemistry of life', 'music closer to us', 'to be a woman in autumn of life' as well as art classes, photography or literature exercise are all a proof showing that University's offer is very diverse. Everyone can find something for himself.
