The National Referendum on the Constituion in Egypt

The national referendum on the draft constitution in Egypt took part in two phases on 15 and 22 December 2012. About 64 percent of voters approved the constitution draft written by Islamist representing the Muslim Brotherhood. Voter turnout was only 32 percent. The secular opposition claims that constitution poses a threat to democracy, freedom and rightsof many social groups. They also claimed the vote was marred by numerous irregularities.
